What to know before selling imported wine in Hong Kong, China
Registration as a food importer or distributor
Under the Food Safety Ordinance, a business that imports food, or whose principal activity is supplying food by wholesale, must be registered with the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene; food includes drink, and a business that does both registers as a food importer. A record of each wholesale supply is made within 72 hours.

No import licence, an import declaration
No licence or permit is required to import, export or remove wine. Whoever imports goods for trade lodges an import declaration with the Customs and Excise Department within 14 days, electronically through a service provider the government appoints.

A liquor licence to sell for drinking on the premises
Selling liquor for consumption on the premises requires a liquor licence from the Liquor Licensing Board before the business starts, under the Dutiable Commodities (Liquor) Regulations. The Board generally considers premises licensed as restaurants, and selling liquor without a licence is an offence.
No sale to anyone under 18, online included
Intoxicating liquor may not be sold or supplied to anyone under 18 in the course of business. A seller online must display the prescribed notice in Chinese and English before checkout and obtain the buyer's declaration of being 18 or over before the sale, and its own delivery staff check the recipient's age.

Questions and answers
Which licence do I need to sell wine in Hong Kong, China?
Selling wine for consumption on the premises takes a liquor licence from the Liquor Licensing Board, generally for premises licensed as restaurants. Importing wine needs no licence or permit from Customs, and a business that imports or wholesales wine is registered with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. The Board and the Department confirm what your premises and trade require.
Can I sell wine online to buyers in Hong Kong, China?
Online sale must follow the rules on minors: show the prescribed notice in Chinese and English before checkout, receive the buyer's declaration of being 18 or over before the sale, and have your own delivery staff check the recipient's age. Order requests from Asiavino reach you as the seller, and you confirm them, take payment and deliver.
Does the Distributor Studio cost anything?
No. The distributor account is free: no subscription, no listing fees and no commission on wine sales.
Who sells the wine to the buyer?
You do. Asiavino does not sell alcohol: it transmits each order request to the licensed distributor, who confirms it, takes payment and delivers.
Can I choose the brands and wines I carry?
Yes. You activate only the wines you distribute, in the markets where your company is licensed, and you can propose wines that are not on Asiavino yet.
Who can join?
Wine importers and distributors. When you join, you confirm that your company holds every licence and registration its markets require, and Asiavino can verify them.
