What to know before selling imported wine in India
An IEC and an FSSAI import licence
Importing wine takes an Importer-Exporter Code from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, which asks for a PAN, a bank account in the firm's name and a valid address, and an import licence from the FSSAI's Central Licensing Authority. If the IEC is suspended, cancelled or revoked, the FSSAI import licence is deemed cancelled.

A licence from each state where you sell
Under the Constitution of India, the production, possession, transport, purchase and sale of intoxicating liquors are matters for the states, and the states tax the sale of alcoholic liquor. The licence to sell wine therefore comes under the law of the state where you sell, and the licences, taxes and conditions differ from one state to another.
Online sale, delivery and age, state by state
Because the sale of liquor is a state matter, whether wine may be sold online or delivered to the buyer, and the minimum age to buy it, are set by the law of each state and are not the same everywhere. Check the rules of each state where you accept order requests before you deliver.
Food import clearance
Customs refers each food consignment to the FSSAI through its Food Import Clearance System for inspection and sampling, and the wine is released on a no objection certificate. For alcoholic beverages above 10% alcohol with no expiry date, that certificate is valid for 300 days. Labelling defects can be corrected in the bonded warehouse, except the batch, the dates and the country of origin.
