What to know before selling imported wine in Taiwan, China
An import licence, no licence to sell
Wholesalers and retailers of alcohol need no licence under the Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act; only sellers of ethanol register. Importing alcohol is different: the importer applies to the Ministry of Finance and may trade only once it holds a tobacco and alcohol import licence.

An inspection for each batch
The licensed importer applies online to the Treasury Administration for the inspection of each batch, and wine that fails the hygiene standards cannot be imported. A batch is released after testing, after a random check of at least 5% of batches, or on its documents.

No sale by mail order or electronic shopping
Alcohol may not be sold or transferred through vending machines, mail order, electronic shopping or any other method in which the buyer's age cannot be identified. Ask the Treasury Administration how this applies to the way you take orders and hand over wine.

The age of 18, shown where wine is sold
A seller displays, in Chinese, at the entrance of each place where alcohol is sold at retail or another place customers clearly see, that anyone under 18 may not drink, that the place does not sell alcohol to anyone under 18, and a warning against drinking and driving.

Questions and answers
Which licence do I need to sell wine in Taiwan, China?
Selling wine by wholesale or retail needs no licence under the Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act. Importing it takes a tobacco and alcohol import licence from the Ministry of Finance, applied for at the Treasury Administration, which confirms what your trade requires.
Can I sell wine online to buyers in Taiwan, China?
The Act does not allow alcohol to be sold by mail order, electronic shopping or any other method in which the buyer's age cannot be identified. Order requests from Asiavino reach you as the seller: you confirm them, take payment and hand over the wine, and the Treasury Administration or your counsel can confirm how the rule applies to the way you do it.
Does the Distributor Studio cost anything?
No. The distributor account is free: no subscription, no listing fees and no commission on wine sales.
Who sells the wine to the buyer?
You do. Asiavino does not sell alcohol: it transmits each order request to the licensed distributor, who confirms it, takes payment and delivers.
Can I choose the brands and wines I carry?
Yes. You activate only the wines you distribute, in the markets where your company is licensed, and you can propose wines that are not on Asiavino yet.
Who can join?
Wine importers and distributors. When you join, you confirm that your company holds every licence and registration its markets require, and Asiavino can verify them.
